Two female photographers on gender

Here are two instances of photographs by female artists that have made me think about gender and blurring binaries in very different ways.

Tatiana Bondareva

From the series Boys, which documents boys between the ages of 14 and 18 in a juvenile institution convicted of crimes in Saint-Petersburg.

About Me

I am originally from Montreal, Canada and now live in Sheffield, UK. I work in children's social care policy. I'm a book worm.

I have a PhD in History of Art from the University of York (UK). My thesis explored the dialogue between modernist photography and abstraction (1914-1930). I examined atmospheres in photographs through a formalist-phenomenological methodology. Feminism/women's art, art in remote places and the intersection of art and ecology are also important to me.

I have a BA at McGill University in Art History and World Cinemas and an MA in History of Art at UCL. My masters thesis focused on the 1967 Fogo Island Challenge for Change documentaries.
